Is the Pope updating the Brand
Many devote Catholics are concerned and confused about the concept of Limbo.
Limbo refers to the permanent status that the souls of unbaptized children who die in infancy reside despite not having committed any personal sins, but without having been freed from what Catholics call the ‘original sin’.
When asked about what Limbo is Pope John Paul II said that the faith "entrusts the fate of infants and the unborn to the mercy of God". Not really a good explaination.
Pope Benedict XVI is apparently keen to amend the current confusion and effectively make the faith more acceptable by tidying up some areas that appear unresolved or contradictory.
In effect the Catholic Church is in the process of redefining its brand.
There is some concern in certain circles that in many regions of the world the Catholic Church is losing ground to Islam and other faiths where the barriers to entry seem somewhat simpler.
It is apparent that Pope Benedict XVI is keen to prepare the faith for the modern world and bring its theology into line with the great changes that have occurred over the last hundred years or so.
